A pair of wins over a powerhouse Orangeville squad has the AA Aurora Jays within reaching distance of top spot in the North Dufferin Baseball League.
The first meeting of the year between the two offensive-minded teams came last Tuesday in what promised to be a tight matchup, before the Jays knocked in an eight-run second inning and cruised to a 10 – 4 win.
Daniel Lehmkuhl, Ian Rettie, Chris Fafalios, Aaron Giroux, Brad Crosby, Ted Beadle, Rob Wilson, and Kyle Handley all crossed the plate in a second inning that saw the Jays go almost completely through their lineup, while Lehmkuhl and Fafalios crossed again in the fourth and sixth innings respectively.
Rob Spencer was instrumental on the mound in picking up his fourth win of the year, good for second in the entire NDBL. He threw a complete seven innings while giving up just six hits and four runs, while striking out seven in the process.
The teams met again on Friday to complete the season series, which Aurora swept with a 5 – 2 victory. Thomas D’Andrade improved his record to 2 – 0 on the year working the mound.
The Jays wrapped up the week on Sunday with a pair of road games in Lisle, first falling to the Clearview Orioles before earning the win over the Midland Indians.
That brings their record to 14-4-0, good for fourth place in the NDBL standings, and into a tie with the plummeting Giants. The Clearview Orioles have attained the number one spot, holding onto a record of 15-4-1, three points up on the Jays though with two more games played.
Aurora will get to enjoy a long awaited four-game home stand this week, opening against the Mansfield Cubs (6-15-1) on Thursday.
Opening pitch is set for 7.30 p.m.
