Ormond continues to win at OFSAA

By Jake Courtepatte

In the final months of her Grade 10 year, Cami Ormond has already made a lasting impression in high school provincial sports.

Early June saw the Aurora High School student run away with the 3,000-metre title at the Ontario Federation of Schools Athletic Association Championship in Belleville, a feat she first accomplished in Grade 9, where she broke a record that had stood for 30 years.

This year's win came with a time of 9:51.29, approximately 21 seconds ahead of her closest competitor.

Fresh off a victory in the 4,200-metre in November's championships, the title is Ormond's fifth in her two years at the high school level, ranking as one of the top middle-distance runners in Canada for her age group.

“The competition at OFSAA cross country is awesome,” Ormond told The Auroran. “I have so many great runners there to encourage me to go faster and do my best.”

Outside of the high school circuit, Ormond races for the Newmarket Huskies Track Club where she is a top competitor, and has represented Ontario at the provincial level.

With aspirations to one day represent Canada at the Olympic Games, Ormond is now gearing up for the summer season with meets in Brandon, Manitoba and Ottawa.
