With the Leafs' first two games of the season postponed, Daniel Lehmkuhl took advantage of a stale Ivy squad when as only the second batter of the game he sent a two-run shot to left centre. From there they never looked back, battling challenging winds which manager Rob Wilson said the team “managed well.” “Between the quick start and solid pitching, the game was always in our hands.” Robert Spencer got his first start on the mound, going five strong innings for the Jays and earning the win. “We left a lot of runners on against Bolton last week, so it was a good bounce back game for us to cash in some runs,” said Wilson. The Jays had lost 5 – 2 to the Brewers at Lambert Willson Park on Tuesday, who returned to the NDBL after a two-year stint in the AAA Greater Toronto Baseball League. With a total of ten runners reaching base, only Lehmkuhl and Aaron Giroux were able to cash in, while a three-run home run by the Brewers off pitcher Andrew Bukovec in the top of the seventh inning broke open a 2 – 1 game. Devon Wu started the game on the mound for the Jays, putting up five innings of two-run ball while striking out five. A 1 – 1 record has the Jays in the middle of the pack after the first week of play, with only the Clearview Orioles and Creemore Braves maintaining a 2 – 0 record. The Jays hit the mound Wednesday following press time to visit the Brewers in a rematch, and get their first look at the Ivy Rangers Thursday night, who moved up to the senior ranks from the junior league in the offseason. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. at Victoria Park in Ivy. A busy week in the NDBL continues with the annual Victoria Day tournament in Lisle this weekend.
