MP'S REPORT: A Month to Honour and Remember

By Kyle Peterson, MP
Newmarket-Aurora

This month, as always, has been busy both in Aurora and on Parliament Hill.
This past weekend, I was proud to take part in the Santa Under the Stars Parade.
This is always one of my favorite events of the holiday season; I love seeing the community come together to enjoy these events. It is a fantastic way to kick-off the Christmas season! I would also like to extend my congratulations to the event planners and everyone whose hard work went into this year's parade.
This month, I also attended the Aurora Sports Hall of Fame grand re-opening at the SARC. An exciting event! I was impressed with the look and feel of the Hall's new home. The Hall is a celebration of sport history and excellence in the Town of Aurora, and works to recognize the important role sports has played in Aurora's development. This year saw the inductions of Karen Stemmle, Michael “Mike” Murphy, Sheldon W. Galbraith, and Mike “Kitch” Kitchen. Congratulations to the inductees, and thank you for the important role you have played in athletics in our community. If you haven't yet had a chance to, I encourage you to visit the new Hall when you can.
I was also proud to take part in Remembrance services. The dinner my wife Andrea and I attended at the Legion was a moving evening. There were many memorable moments, but the highlight for me was getting to meet the veterans in attendance. We owe them so much. I was also honoured to march in the parade and lay a wreath on behalf of Canada. It was great to see the crowd at the cenotaph, and having the chance to chat with so many people afterwards back at the Legion. Congratulations to the Legion for organizing these events.
Along with other MPs from York Region, I was happy to participate in our pre-budget 2017 consultations with stakeholders from the Region.
The feedback we get from these types of events is always important as we undergo our budget process. Thanks to all who participated.
We are working hard on Parliament Hill to help Canadians get ahead. I was happy to speak on the Budget 2016 implementation bill and on the C.P.P. Enhancement Bill. I'm very proud of the work we have done so far, and I am really looking forward to the work ahead of us.
I'd like to wish everyone a safe, happy, and festive holiday season. I am looking forward to seeing you around Town once I am back for Christmas. All my best to you and your family for the holidays and I wish you a healthy and prosperous 2017.
