MP’s REPORT: Autumn Times

October 6, 2016   ·   0 Comments

The House of Commons returned on September 19 for the fall session, but I was fortunate enough to attend many local events this past month before returning to Ottawa.
On September 15, I was proud to host a public town hall on electoral reform‎ in the Council Chambers at Aurora Town Hall. We had a robust discussion with many points of view being expressed.
I am pleased to hear from all people, on this issue, like any issue. Ideas and input on electoral reform from Newmarket-Aurora will be included in my written report. This will be submitted to the special committee on electoral reform later this month.
I was also pleased to participate in this year’s Magna Hoedown, which is one of York Region’s largest annual community fundraisers, and I have been attending the event for years! This year, I was proud to attend a special feature of the weekend long event‎, a lunch time student hoedown event on Friday, which Magna hosted. It was great to see so many students having such a fun time. Thank you and congratulations to all volunteers who made it all possible.
On September 18, Activate Aurora launched its fantastic new program, and I was honoured to attend along with Leona Alleslev, MP for Aurora-Oak Ridges-Richmond Hill and the Federal Parliamentary Secretary of Health, Kamal Khera. This exciting initiative plans to make Aurora “Canada’s Most Active Community.” I urge you get involved, join the program and get active! Visit activateaurora.com to sign-up.
And finally, I want to congratulate the Salvation Army for the grand opening of the new Northridge Community Church in Aurora. I know it will serve the community well for many years to come. Great work to all who made it possible!
On Wednesday,October 12, please join me and York Region MPs for a National Housing Strategy Town Hall. The meeting will be held in the evening at the York Region Administrative Centre located at 17250 Yonge St, Newmarket.
I want to take this opportunity to wish you and your family a very Happy Thanksgiving!
