Barbs to meet London in first round of McCormick Cup

By Jake Courtepatte

A sixth place finish in Rugby Ontario's top division has set up an interesting post-season matchup for the senior Aurora Barbarians.
The Barbs, playing out of Rugby Ontario's Premiership division, have a date with London St. George, the regular season victors of the second tier Championship division.
A 22 – 14 loss to the basement-dwelling Waterloo County on Saturday solidified a record of 4-10-0 for the Barbs. London, meanwhile, put together an incredible season in Championship play, amassing a 13-1-0 record while averaging 51 points per game, and going undefeated on home turf.
The action begins this Saturday in London, where a win will send the Barbs to the McCormick Cup quarterfinals on October 1 and a loss would send them to the consolation quarters on the same day. The championship game has a set date of October 22.
Brantford enters the postseason as odds-on favourites to win the title, playing to a record of 12-2-0 in the Premiership division this season.
Balmy Beach (9-5-0) are the returning champions, having won the Cup two years in a row.
Aurora was the back-to-back victor of the Cup in 2009 and 2010.
Meanwhile, the Barbs second team opens their quest for the Gee Gage Cup on Saturday as well, the top trophy for Rugby Ontario teams not competing in the first-tier leagues.
Aurora, who finished the season 2-12-0, visits Barrie to take on Barrie RFC at 1.30 p.m.
