Another multi-goal effort from All-Star Simon Adjei was not enough for Aurora United FC to best their division rival Toronto Skillz FC on Sunday.

Adjei struck twice in the first 45 minutes of action in Scarborough, though it would be the end of Aurora’s offence as Skillz took the match 4 – 2 to move ahead of Aurora in the table.

The pair of goals moved Adjei into a solo second spot in league scoring leaders, with seventeen on the season. Zakariae Mahrady ranks second on the Aurora side in goals, with three.

It was a crucial match for both Aurora and Toronto, with Toronto overtaking Aurora in the East for sixth place in the eight-team table. Aurora’s record sits at 3-12-3.

With only four games left in the season, Aurora finds themselves at home at Sheppard’s Bush three times, where they found success with a pair of wins in late August. They host the league-leading Vaughan Azzurri (14-1-4) on home turf Saturday.

Kickoff is set for 7.30 p.m.

The Aurora women’s side returns from a two-week break on Friday for their final game of the season, on the road to face Darby FC (1-11-3). The rookie squad found their groove in August, rattling off three straight wins, thanks mostly to the heavy foot of international star Sarah Stratigakis.

A win Friday could secure Aurora fifth place in the nine-team league in the final standings.
