Aurora-Oak Ridges-Richmond Hill

Where has the summer gone? It is already the end of August but my team and I are excited as we plan and prepare to return to the House of Commons when it resumes in September.
Part of planning for the future is to determine priorities by assessing what has been accomplished so far, and establishing what needs to be done next. My team and I are consistently focused on results, and therefore we created this end of session report card which we are pleased to share with you.
This report summarizes the 214 Days in the first session of the 42nd Parliament of Canada. I spent 96 days in Ottawa, and 118 Days in Aurora-Oak Ridges- Richmond Hill. Below is an overview of what I have been up to in those 214 days:

Local Initiatives

395 Constituent Cases Solved (including assistance with immigration files, Employment Insurance, Guaranteed Income Supplement, Canadian Pension Plan, and others)
64 Constituency Meetings
8 (now 9) Columns in Local Newspapers
43 Community Events Attended
3 Funding Announcements
6 Public Consultation Town Halls

Parliamentary Affairs

9 Speeches in the House of Commons
23 Questions Answered in Question Period (as Parliamentary Secretary on behalf of the Minister for Public Services and Procurement)
102 Votes in the House of Commons
3 Policy Reports submitted to Ministers’ Offices
6 Parliamentary Caucuses: Aerospace (Chair), Automotive, Digital, Women’s, Ontario, National
5 Parliamentary Associations: Executive of NATO, Member on Canada-USA, Canada-Europe, Canada-France, Commonwealth, and Inter-Parliamentary Union.

I am not only committed to representing you in Ottawa, but it is also my responsibility to bring Ottawa’s voice back to our community. Toward that end I have hosted town halls to hear everyone’s perspectives on different Federal issues to ensure that government policy is made with you in mind. I am proud to say that to date our community has provided comments and direction on: Budget 2016, medical assistance in dying, climate change, defence policy, Canada Post, and electoral reform.
I want to thank all who have participated including those who have sent in emails outlining their positions on these and other important topics. Your voice does indeed matter. If there are federal issues that you think would merit a Town Hall discussion format in the future, I encourage you to contact me by email.
Finally, to end the summer properly and to further connect our community, I will be hosting a free Community Barbecue on September 10 from 1-3:30pm at Richmond Green (Northwest corner of Leslie and Elgin Mills. Enter off of Leslie Street and parking is available at Richmond Green Secondary School). Please join me and bring your friends, family, and neighbours to enjoy food, refreshments and fun for the kids. I am looking forward to seeing you there!
