Town “willing to attempt mediation” over Highland Gate

The Town of Aurora is “willing to attempt mediation” to resolve outstanding concerns surrounding the proposed redevelopment of Highland Gate Golf Course.

Council endorsed a motion from Mayor Geoff Dawe on Tuesday night which formally opposed the applications of the Highland Gate Developments Inc. “in its current form” of 184 detached homes and a 10 storey condo.

The resolution directed municipal staff to “engage all interested parties in mediation with respect to the appeal and address Council’s concerns while exploring better options in terms of design and density for the site that would best suit the community.”

In a statement on Wednesday, the Town clarified its position further.

“There has been much discussion about the proposed residential development on the current site of Highland Gate Golf Club,” said CAO Doug Nadorozny in the statement, noting Highland Gate Developments Inc.’s decision to take their application to the Ontario Municipal Board. “As with any development, there are several steps in the approval process, including a number of public meetings and consultations that occurred over the course of the last year.

“Aurora Town Council is willing to attempt mediation with other parties to try and resolve Council’s concerns.”
