TA's Almost, Maine: A ReviewBy Scott Johnston A fictitious and slightly magical community in the northeastern U.S near the Canadian border is the setting for Theatre Aurora's latest production of “Almost, Maine”. The “almost” comes from the fact that the residents never got around to being organized enough to establish a proper town, so it's... almost. But, that explanation is just a backdrop to the series of several stories that take place on the same winter's night. The play, by John Cariani focuses on relationships, with the vignettes bracketed by one heart-warming tale set on a park bench that takes place in three parts. Many of the stories have a slight twist to them, and not all have happy endings, but that's the nature of relationships. Overall, the stories are entertaining and very well written. Better yet, they are nicely performed by six young men and women, who each play a variety of roles. Cole Davison, Bryce Davison, Diana DelRosario, Connor Maclachlan, Laryssa Paskaruk and Maggie Street are all talented young actors, and bring a lot of emotion and empathy to their array of characters. Evening performances of “Almost, Maine” will be held at Theatre Aurora, 150 Henderson Drive, May 20 and 21, with a matinee May 21 at 2 p.m. Tickets are available through the box office at 905-727-3669. |
