It was a chilly weekend at Lambert Willson Park for the Aurora-King Baseball Association’s first tournament of the year, hosting fifteen teams from across Ontario in the 13 and under PeeWee group.
The Aurora-King Jays opened against a tough South Ottawa Blues team on Friday evening, losing a close one, 9 – 8, after some delays due to weather. They returned to the weather-worn diamond Saturday afternoon, and through the elements put together an 8 – 5 win over the Innisfil Cardinals.
They capped off the round-robin with a 4 – 3 win over the Bloordale Bombers later that day, setting up a quarterfinal matchup with the Mississauga North Tigers Sunday morning.
Mississauga was the team to move on in a 7 – 4 win, defeating the Thornhill AA Reds 8 – 5 in extra innings Sunday afternoon to capture the tournament title.
Aurora-King will play host to five more rep tournaments throughout the season, with the Mosquitos (11 and under) next at bat from June 3 – 5.
