In that time, we have opened two offices (one in Ottawa, and one here locally), hired staff, and attended dozens of local events and meetings and toured local businesses and non-profit organizations. Most importantly, I have had the opportunity to have countless conversations with so many people here in Aurora and Newmarket. There is no substitute for chatting with residents to really get a full picture of what is on their minds, and what their priorities are. I was honoured to have been appointed to the International Trade Committee, which will be an extremely busy one as we examine the Trans-Pacific Partnership, the Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement and the Softwood Lumber Agreement negotiations. I look forward to the work ahead. Our government has had a very busy first 100 days. Among the early accomplishments are a middle class tax cut, putting more money in your pockets; reinstating the long-form census, which will allow for evidence-based decision-making; the unmuzzling of federal employees; a broad-based consultation on the budget to hear what is most important to Canadians; beginning the process into an inquiry into missing and murdered indigenous women; the reform of the Senate; a gender balanced Cabinet; a commitment to combat climate change at the United Nations Conference on Climate Change in Paris; and the commitment to settle 25,000 Syrian refugees in Canada, which should be completed by the end of this month. I am proud of these accomplishments and I look forward to the future work of our government and ultimately its impact in improving the lives of residents in Aurora and Newmarket. As we look to the future, there remains much work to be done. I look forward to the budget on March 22nd. I also look forward to continuing to hear from all of you, and invite you to contact my office if we can be of any service to you.
