Aurora Eagles sitting pretty in YRAA hoops standings

The Tier II division board of the YRAA can appear daunting. With almost thirty teams on the list, the scores can be difficult to follow, but one thing you can always count on is seeing the Aurora Eagles somewhere near the top.

Sitting at a record of 4-2-0, the Eagles are currently tied for ninth in the division, although they have played one less game than most of their opponents. That record, though impressive, could be even better: they lost a heartbreaker to Newmarket’s Huron Heights two weeks ago, a 58 – 55 contest that had the Eagles ahead with under a minute to go.

Most recently, they were the latest victims of Richmond Green S.S., who have put up an outstanding amount of points on the year. The Eagles put up 56, but their opponents countered with 72 points of their own.

One day earlier, Aurora took on their cross-town rivals, the St. Maximillian Kolbe Mustangs, whom they handled with ease in a 62 – 55 win.

With a two-week break for exam period in the high school sports schedule, the Eagles will have time to regroup before their final two matches of the season, all with playoff implications. They will get their chance at revenge on Feb. 2 when they host Richmond Green, and cap off the season on a hard note when they host Sir William Mulock two days later. The Black Ravens have lost only one game this season.

Playoffs run in mid-February. For schedules, visit www.yraa.ca.
