Aurora votes in two federal ridings this time aroundBy Brock Weir   This election signals the beginning of an Aurora split as far as Federal representation is concerned. This time around, residents of Aurora living north of Wellington Street will remain voters in the reconfigured existing riding of Newmarket-Aurora, while residents living on the south side of Wellington will vote in the newly-created riding of Aurora-Oak Ridges-Richmond Hill. The changes were approved last year by the Federal Boundaries Commission, which redrew the electoral map to account for population growth across the country. Earlier this year, the Province of Ontario announced they too will redraw the map to conform with Federal ridings, meaning Aurora will also be served by two MPPs following the next Provincial election expected in 2018. |
