Patrick Moyle will succeed former Aurora CAO Neil Garbe on an interim basis effective August 4.

Mr. Moyle, who has served previously as Chief Administrative Officer to the Region of Halton, and the Towns of Orangeville and Huntsville, was appointed to the position last week by Council for a position not to exceed six months.

In a statement, Mayor Geoff Dawe said Mr. Moyle brings a “wealth of municipal management experience to the role…[and] a proven record of leadership” that will be beneficial to the Town.

“I look forward to working with Patrick over the next several months as he provides strategic direction to the corporation and advice to Council,” said Mayor Dawe. “Patrick has an exemplary track record on organizational reviews, policy, administrative best practices and executive recruitment, which will be critical assets as we navigate a busy fall agenda and conduct a search for a permanent CAO.”

In the meantime until August 4, existing departmental directors at Town Hall will rotate in the position of acting CAO.

Last week’s Council meeting not only provided for Mr. Moyle’s appointment but also an opportunity for Mayor Dawe to pay tribute to Mr. Garbe, who takes up the Chief Administrative Officer’s position in the Town of Richmond Hill this month.

“We wish him nothing but the best as he takes on some exciting new opportunities there,” said Mayor Dawe. “It is a larger town with different challenges. When I started here, Neil was a tremendous help for us newbies getting through those first few weeks where we were very much deer in the headlights. We are looking forward to some exciting opportunities for Aurora.”

Remarks were also returned by Mr. Garbe, who joined the Town in 2009, expressing his gratitude for his years at the helm.

“I did want to express my gratitude and thanks to this Council as well as the previous councils for the confidence you have shown in me and the encouragement,” he said. “We have a tremendous staff that serves this community and serve this Council and I want to wish everyone the very best. You are in good hands with our staff and our community is well-served. It has been a tremendous pleasure to be a part of the community and a part of this team. I look forward to being your neighbour.”

In addition to serving a five year term as Executive Director of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario, Mr. Moyle has also provided hiss services to the City of Burlington as Interim City Manager, where he also helped lead the search for a permanent Manager.
