Get off your butts and keep Aurora clean

June 24, 2015   ·   0 Comments

My name is Monica and I have lived in Aurora for many years. I walk to most places, weather permitting, and use the bus other times.
When walking, I see many cigarette butts on the sidewalks, private property and even roads, along with other kinds of garbage too.
When people are in cars and are smoking, they just toss the butt out the window instead of putting it in the ash tray and emptying it when they get home.
When on the street, it is not much different. They just drop it on the sidewalk.
This will not change until smokers realize what they are doing to themselves and the environment.
When you get home, do you just drop it on the floor or on the furniture?
The smell of cigarettes is disgusting to most people. When mothers are out walking with their children, they have to be so careful of the ones that walk beside the buggy that they don’t pick up anything on the ground.
I thought things might change with people being made aware of the dangers of smoking but, alas, this doesn’t seem to be the case.
I would love to see the butts and garbage disappear not just when the Mayor has a special day like the Annual Clean-Up Day, but all the time.
When I am out walking I always take a shopping bag with me and I pick up the garbage, but I can’t pick up butts.
So, please don’t litter. Keep Aurora clean.

Monica Day
