Mentoring helps kids, society achieve full potential

June 10, 2015   ·   0 Comments

What if every child finished high school, went to college or university, got a job and gave back to the community? Wouldn’t that be something? There is no more important investment we can make than in helping our children realize and share their full potential.
With this in mind, Big Brothers Big Sisters of York continues to impact the lives of children and volunteers through mentoring and positive relationships in York Region.
Mentoring can change the course of young lives and, in turn, the future of our communities. A recent study by the Boston Consulting Group determined that for every dollar invested by Big Brothers Big Sisters an estimated $18 is returned to society in the form of future taxes and spending. A result of higher incomes earned and increased volunteering and donations. Our success in providing mentors to children in York Region would not be possible without the generous donations from businesses, individuals and community services.
We are seeking your support to help us raise funds for our Mentoring Programs and activities during this coming year. Programs and activities that provide a safe environment where kids can develop positive social skills and self-esteem, learn new things and enjoy themselves. Donations will allow us to offer more educational and recreational activities in a positive, safe, healthy and nurturing atmosphere.
Locally, Big Brothers Big Sisters of York Mentoring Programs continue to grow, with more programs and new activities being made available to children annually, and we hope to continue the momentum. Recent studies support the fact that mentoring works. Girls are four times less likely to bully, fight, lie or lose their temper and boys are two times less likely to engage in that same negative behaviour and more likely to stay in school. There are children waiting to be matched with a mentor and the need continues to grow. Please consider your gift to ensure they are part of our impactful mentoring programs!
