Aurora is just over one week away from commemorating the closure of George Street Public School, and plans are gelling for the school’s grand finale celebration next Saturday, May 23.

All current and former students and faculty, as well as the community at large, are invited to come by from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for a day of fun and memories, activities for the whole family, and mementos and artefacts celebrating the nearly 60 years of George Street Public School.

A special highlight will take place at 11 a.m. as George Street students gather to perform a song entitled “The Best Years”, a tribute to their school they recently recorded with Newmarket-based musician Glenn Marais.

“The whole day is running as an open house,” says co-organizer Lora Georgiou. “Classrooms will be open, there will be a lot of photo memorabilia and outside, weather dependent, we will have a bouncy castle, some face painting, and entertainment for the whole family, along with a barbeque and refreshments at 1 p.m.”
