Inside the Box is an exhibition of small ceramic works

April 22, 2015   ·   0 Comments

Inspired by the Orton Cone Box Competition, sponsored by Orton Ceramics, Pine Tree Potters’ Guild is hosting a juried exhibition and competition of small ceramic works.
The show will be held in conjunction with Pine Tree Potters’ Guild Annual Spring Sale.
Visitors to the Spring Sale at the Aurora Cultural Centre from April 30 to May 3 will have the opportunity to visit the exhibition and to cast a vote for the work that they like best.
The piece with the most votes will win a People’s Choice Award.
Orton is a company that produces pyrometric cones that are used to measure the amount of heat inside a kiln.
The cones come in small boxes measuring 3”x 3” x 6”.
Since 1975, a competition to celebrate small work, has been held every 2 to 3 years. The only criteria for the exhibition are that the work must be at least 50 per cent clay and must be able to fit inside an Orton cone box.
After that, it is up to the artist’s skill and imagination to create a unique and exquisite object.
