SENIOR SCAPE: Spring has Sprung

By Charles Sequeira

Aurora Community Tennis Club

The Aurora Community Tennis Club has been successful in its application to the New Horizons for Seniors Grant Program. On behalf of our Board of Directors, I want to thank the Aurora Seniors Association for providing a letter of support for our Aurora Community Pickle Ball Initiative.

To review, the ACTC proposal specified some unique services to the growing pickle ball community. At McMahon Park, pickle ball players will be able to enjoy pickle ball matches in a scenic surrounding, have access to clubhouse facilities and enjoy relaxing social times with other pickle ball players. Cushioned courts, clean modern washrooms, ample parking, patio style furniture, new barbecue, kitchen, and secure storage for pickle ball equipment will all be accessible to the burgeoning community of pickle ball players in Aurora.

Our Aurora Community Pickle Ball Initiative will be establishing links with the Ontario Pickle ball Association and Pickle Ball Canada for the purpose of benefiting from their services. Potentially and in time, the McMahon, ASA and the Leisure Centre play venues could offer hosting of Provincial and National-sanctioned tournaments. This would be a significant step towards complementing the Sport Aurora and the Town's goal of making Aurora a destination site for sports.

We encourage ASA pickle ball players and organizers to bring their support to the initiative. The McMahon site will be an ideal venue for enjoying pickle ball during the summer months.
